Getting There

Once you turn onto Hakala Hills Drive from Five Mile Road, take the next immediate right turn onto the paved road. You will see a sign with lots of house numbers on a post—turn there.

Drive up Hakala Hills Drive for 1/4 mile, and you will see the Holiday House on your left.

⚠️ Note: Do not follow any dirt road beyond the sign. Google Maps may try to take you that way—don't do it!

Using the Keypad

Your unique 4-digit door code will be sent a few days before arrival.

1. Press the HOME button to light up the keypad
2. Enter your 4-digit code
3. The door will unlock automatically

To lock when leaving: Press the lower-right button (small house with an "X")

Off-Street Parking

Off-street parking is available for three vehicles without needing to shuffle cars.

⚠️ Winter Warning: Vehicles with snow tires or all-wheel drive are required to access the driveway during inclement winter weather.

Cedar Sauna

The Holiday House features a private cedar sauna outside for your relaxation!

How to Operate the Sauna

To Turn On: Twist the timer dial on the front of the heater past the first "click" to engage the heating element. If you need help, see this video: How to Use the Sauna

Heat Up Time: Allow 30–45 minutes for the barrel to reach optimal temperature (around 160°F–180°F).

Water: You may sprinkle a small ladle of water over the hot rocks for steam (Löyly), but please do not pour heavy amounts—this is an electric heater.

The Nordic Cycle

Try this traditional 3-step loop. Repeat 2–3 times for maximum relaxation!

1. The Heat (10–15 mins) — Enter the sauna and relax. Let your body heat up and your pores open. Focus on your breathing and disconnect from your phone.

2. The Cool Down (1–2 mins) — Step out into the fresh air. If you're feeling brave, take a cold shower, roll in the snow (in winter!), or simply stand outside and let the cool air wash over you. The contrast boosts circulation and releases endorphins.

3. The Rest (10–15 mins) — Wrap up in a robe and sit comfortably. Hydrate with water or tea. Let your body temperature normalize before starting the cycle again.

⚠️ Safety Tips

• Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after.
• Listen to your body: If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, step out immediately.
• Timer: The sauna has an automatic shut-off. If it turns off, simply reset the dial.

Find blankets on the downstairs couch and stored in the ottoman.

Enjoy evenings around the fire pit! Firewood is provided next to the pit — use it freely.

The Basics

• 🔇 Quiet hours: 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM
• 🚭 No smoking anywhere on property, indoor or outdoor (zero tolerance)
• 🐾 No pets except service animals (must notify host in advance; service animals must be crated or accompanied when unattended)
• 🎉 No events or parties — this property is not a party venue

Security

Nest doorbell/camera is installed at the front door. We respect your privacy and only review footage when the doorbell rings or for safety concerns.

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed throughout the home.

Thanks for being respectful of the neighbors and the space!

What's Provided

The home is all set up for self-check-in. Inside, you'll find:

Kitchen:

• Coffee maker with supplies
• Oven (doubles as an air fryer!)
• Dishwasher (pods under sink)
• Full kitchen setup

Outdoor:

• Charcoal grill (charcoal is NOT provided — please bring your own)
• Sleds in the shed for winter fun!

Essentials:

• Shampoo, conditioner, body wash
• Dish & laundry pods
• Garbage bags, paper towels, toilet paper

Linens:

• Beds will be freshly made
• Bath towels, hand towels, washcloths
• Beach towels provided

Safety:

• First aid kit under the kitchen bench
• Fire extinguisher in kitchen area

Laundry

Washer, dryer, and laundry pods are in the basement laundry room.

Nest Thermostat

The unit has a Nest thermostat for heating and cooling.

For air conditioning:

1. Press HOME to wake the display
2. Set the mode to "Cool"
3. Adjust the temperature as needed

Where to Go

Place garbage in the blue trash bin by the shed. Extra garbage bags are under the kitchen sink.

Trash Day

Pickup is Tuesday morning — a team member may stop by to move bins to the mailboxes.

Overflow

If you accumulate extra trash, you can leave it in the shed and our property manager will handle it.
